Two seemingly simple phrases have had a big impact on my work as a trainer, coach, and facilitator. The first phrase is “A fool with a tool is still a fool”. Again and again I meet leaders who cannot get enough of methods and tools, but are still unable to get their people behind them. Such managers often ask me how to effectively “manipulate” their employees. However, coaching or training in that case must mainly focus on the attitude towards others before learning any management tools.
The second phrase is “What you wish to kindle in others must burn within yourself.“ This phrase aims at the same thing. Only leaders who act as role models can expect employees to show enthusiasm and passion. In the long run, people notice if their leaders are unhappy or feel insecure about their work situation. Thus, creating “meaningful workplaces” for me begins by reflecting the own mindset. As a consultant I try to be a role model for passion, positive thinking, appreciation and respect.

Prior to my “calling” as a consultant I was a manager at Procter & Gamble.
